Lynne's Corner Update
24th August 2004
First, we want to thank all of you who cast your votes and made "Toxic" the Single of the Year at the Teen Choice Awards! Britney's knee is slowly healing. She's starting to walk better and better each day. Currently, she's shooting her video for "My Perogative" at the Paramour in Los Angeles. Jamie Lynn did her Teen Vogue shoot here so we were already familiar with this beautiful estate. There's a spooky story behind this home. The owner told us it's even scarier at night, so Jamie Lynn and her friends came to visit the set last night after dark. We all had so much fun browsing through the house and hearing stories about different area's on the property. Not to mention how Dan from management almost gave me a heart attack (but we won't go into that)! The video itself is going to be like none other. Since Britney's knee is unable to do choreography, the video is all about capturing gorgeous close ups and very subtle movement. It has an element of old Hollywood glamour and mystery- I think you'll love it! Oh, and please look for that good looking hunk of a son of mine in the video- he has a cameo right at the beginning. Britney, Kevin and I are still diligently searching for the perfect home for them. They got back from a wonderful relaxing trip in Lake Tahoe- fishing, sleeping late, good food and I heard the view was breathtaking! It was an ideal vacation for rest and relaxation. Jamie Lynn and I are going home for our 1st time since she began shooting her Nickelodeon show in June. We are so looking forward to seeing friends & family members and our beautiful home. Although there's been much whining and moaning- I do believe Jamie Lynn is excited about going back to school. Britney's annual trip to her camp is right around the corner. She's really looking forward to meeting this year's campers. Johnny Mac, Nina Biggar and Donna Luther always do such a wonderful job at making the camp such a success every year. Everyone leaves with a huge smile on their face. Britney is so proud of her Foundation- and that's what is truly important in life, don't you agree? - Lynne

"My Prerogative" Video News
18th August 2004
Britney's next single makes a statement about her life, and the accompanying video will too, making it clear that Spears follows no rules but her own. The singer ignores streetlights and traffic laws as her sports car speeds up a dark road in the Hollywood Hills toward a hillside manor, which has an air of old Hollywood about it, according to a copy of the video treatment obtained by MTV News. A party is in progress, which the singer gladly disrupts, jumping the curb in her car, crashing through a fence and splashing into the pool. That sort of thing might put a damper on most people's party plans, but Spears just crawls atop the car as it sinks and starts singing, "Everybody's talking/ All this stuff about me/ Why can't they just let me live?" Her dress soaking wet and clinging to her skin, she steps off the car and goes into the mansion, giving partygoers a look that commands respect. She passes couples making out on the couches as she makes her way into a stainless-steel kitchen, where gourmet food is on display. She grabs a butcher knife, walks across the kitchen brandishing the knife, and just as she steps out of the room, she cuts the straps off her wet dress, letting it fall to the floor. While it's not clear if she's wearing anything now, Spears walks into a study, where a man sits in the dark with his back to her, watching a black-and-white film projected on a pull-down screen. It looks like a skin flick from the 1940s or '50s, but as he watches it, his cigar smoke curling up and illuminated in the projector beam, it becomes clear that the sexy footage is actually of Spears. She then heads into a dressing room, where mirrors show all angles of her wearing nothing but her knickers, high heels, stockings and a short fur jacket, as she continues singing, "Why can't they just let me live?/ It's my prerogative." From there she heads into a bedroom, where a dress is laid out on the comforter. She walks toward the bed and away from the camera, letting her jacket fall to the ground. She holds up the new dress as the camera cuts to the party outside, where people are waiting, anxiously, for something, someone...

"My Prerogative" Information
14th August 2004
Britney's greatest hits collection contains her version of the 1988 Bobby Brown track, "My Prerogative," which will be the first single from the set.  The cover, according to those who've heard it, doesn't sound much like the original and has been produced by Bloodshy & Avant, who last worked with Spears on "Toxic," where they placed her vocals with a techno-lite beat. The choice of this particular song could also be interpreted - like "Overprotected" and "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" - as a statement on the singer's life and the media reaction to some of her recent decisions, including her engagement to dancer Kevin Federline. The song's lyrics read, "Everybody's talking all this stuff about me/ Why don't they just let me live/ I don't need commission/ Make my own decisions/ That's my prerogative."
"People" Magazine Article On Kevin & More
13th August 2004
Between learning to cook and working on a greatest-hits CD, Britney Spears eases into her role as future stepmom to fiancé Kevin Federline's kids. Spears was excited to spend time with Federline's daughter Kori on Aug. 5. "She was spirited and really happy," says director Dave Meyers. Her connection to Kori's dad, he says, is "very sweet." Since her engagement in June to dancer Kevin Federline, Britney Spears seems to have settled into a long, low-key premarital honeymoon. Shopping. A trip to Hawaii. Pool time. And, for a remarkably long stretch, no headlines. What's up? As she told "People" last month: "I kissed a bunch of frogs and finally found my prince." Of course, this Prince Charming doesn't come with a white stallion - he comes with two kids: daughter Kori, 2, and 5-week old Kaleb (both by his ex-girlfriend, actress Shar Jackson). So on Aug. 5, Spears took time to try out her pending role of stepmom. After missing Kori's second birthday in July, Federline, 26, brought his daughter to an L.A. set where Spears was shooting a commercial for her new Elizabeth Arden perfume, Curious (in stores next month). In what a source says was their second get-together - their first was just before Kaleb was born - Spears, 22, made it up to Kori. "She wanted to go to the trailer to see her whenever she could," says the commercial's director, Dave Meyers. Adds another source: "They were very playful. They had fun. They posed for pictures. You can call it a family portrait." If only a partial one. The more complete picture, of course, includes Federline's ex, Jackson. The actress, 27, has yet to meet Spears, but not because of any ill will, says a friend of Jackson's. (Though for the record, rumors that Spears sent Jackson flowers on the day she delivered Kaleb and bought her a $600,000 home in Orange County are false. Says her pal: "Shar was joking that she'd love to see the keys!") As her friend tells it, "There is nothing standing in the way. It seems to be a timing thing." Indeed, in addition to rehabbing the knee she injured June 8, forcing the cancellation of her tour, Spears has been busy working on her next album, "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative," due November 15th, which will include a remake of Bobby Brown's 1988 hit of the same name. Says Spears's spokeswoman: "Britney is enjoying her time off. She's getting her knee better, learning how to cook and enjoying time with her family and getting to know her new family." Jackson (with Kaleb in August) "is moving on," says a pal. "She has her hands full with being a mom now." For the moment, Federline and Jackson, says a source, have an informal arrangement: The children live with Jackson and her mother in Orange County and spend time with their father when possible. "It all seems to be very impromptu," says Jackson's friend, "like Kevin came and took them a couple of days ago. It is all just whenever they have time." She knows that Kevin and Britney are moving forward, and they will work on putting the family together." In the future, Spears and Federline might need to organize themselves better - if only because Spears, who is very close to her mother, Lynne, 49, her contractor father, James, 52, her brother, Bryan, 27 and especially her 13-year-old sister Jamie Lynn, has said she wants to have four or five children of her own. "I love little ones," she said.  Ditto Federline, himself the product of a blended family. (After his parents, Mike, 49, a mechanic, and Collette, 48, a banker, split when he was 8, he was raised in Clovis, Calif., by his dad and stepmother, along with a brother and step-siblings.) A former neighbor calls him a "stable, everyday kind of a guy" who "could calm things down in her crazy world and help her have a regular life." Director Meyers, for one, is betting the blended-family thing will work. "They're very connected," he says. "She's committed and passionate and emotional."

Lynne's Corner Updated
9th August 2004
Britney and I sat down and read your summer vacation updates- it sounds like you all have been quite busy! Working, going to the beach, swimming, surfing, life guarding, summer school, taking exams, traveling, going on road trips, visiting family, softball tournaments, cheer camp, shopping, going to Six Flags, going to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, FBLA conference, going to museums, going to aquariums, hanging out with friends, going to the movies, going to concerts, camping, mountain climbing, working out, reading, learning to drive, performing, trying out for American Idol, going to church... We hope that no matter what you were up to, you had a great time and thank you for sharing your summer memories with us! Britney has also been laying in the sun and doing some shopping this past week. She just got back from a quick getaway in southern California. She wanted to take a few days because some of the paparazzi seem to be getting more and more aggressive. (Funny though, they seem to be steering at least 3 feet clear of me!) It was so funny, Britney and I hadn't seen each other for a week while she was away and wouldn't you know it - the first day we saw each other we were both dressed alike and wearing the same color- chocolate brown! Even when we're not together we still share the same idiosyncrasies. We went to see "The Village" and it has a very surprising ending. Ron Howard's daughter is spectacular in it! We are so excited about Britney's 4 MTV Video Music Award nominations. Britney was the one who was so adamant about having "Toxic" as her second single, and this just goes to show how she truly knows her fans best! Jamie Lynn has 3 friends out visiting her right now. In total, she's had 8 different girlfriends out to see her. We've had such a fun and full summer. This week Britney is working on the TV shoot for Elizabeth Arden. In case you've forgotten, the Teen Choice Awards are this weekend. It's your last chance to cast your votes! The pups are still doing great, even though they think they're human. They are so sweet. Wedding plans are going along smoothly, Britney and I both are getting very excited! OK, hold on a second - Britney is wanting to write a little something to all of you to finish this up... Hey ya'll, I just wanted to thank you for the well wishes & prayers with my knee and for the congratulations on my personal life. Your message board postings were very sweet. This is the happiest time for me and thank you for your never ending support and love. I've always believed I have the greatest fans in the world!

First Two Albums Re-Certified In The USA
5th August 2004
As many as 14 million copies of Britney Spears' debut album, "...Baby One More Time," have been put into circulation in the United States. In July, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the 1999 Jive set 14 times platinum, reflecting shipments to U.S. retailers. Reaching this level puts "...Baby," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 upon its release, in the same league as such classic albums as Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell" (Epic), Metallica's "Metallica" (Elektra), Garth Brooks' "Ropin' the Wind" (Capitol Nashville) and Simon & Garfunkel's "Greatest Hits" (Columbia). It also brings Spears' debut even with the self-titled debut album by fellow Jive pop act the Backstreet Boys, which was certified 14 times platinum in April 2001. Spears' 2000 follow-up, "Oops!...I Did It Again," has previously been certified at the RIAA's diamond level (10 million copies shipped), while 2001's "Britney" is four times platinum and last year's "In the Zone" double-platinum.
